Material Noun Definition: A material noun is a name which indicates a matter or substance as a mass and does not indicate any part or number of it. (যে noun কোন পদার্থের সমুদয় অংশকে এককভাবে বুঝায় এবং তার অন্তর্গত কোন খন্ড বা অংশকে বুঝায় না তাকে material noun বলে। এই noun যে বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে তাকে গণনা করা যায় না, অন্য কোনভাবে পরিমাপ করা যায়।

Example: plate (থালা) বললে আমরা একটি বস্তুকে বুঝি। কিন্তু salt (লবণ)। বললে আমরা কোন একটি জিনিসকে বুঝি না যা গণনা করা যায়। এক কণা লবণকে আমরা salt বলি না, বলি অসংখ্য কণা লবণের সমষ্টিকে। এভাবে water, gold, iron, milk, tea, water ইত্যাদি হল material noun.

NOTE: material noun এর পরে singular verb ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন—Water is essential to life.
